MIT/BSD licenses ("permissive" (restrictive)) licenses imply the creator considers the work to be valueless (not worthless).

GPL/copyleft licenses imply negative value for developers, for positive value to the users.
The deveolpers restrict themselves, so that users may gain the value of liberation from perceived tyranny.
In essence the value proposition is that "This work, as well as any other work derived from this, must respect the user.".
It is therefore something intended to be used, and derived from.
